How Does Fiber Service Get to Your HOA Neighborhood?

Oct 19, 2021 | Home Technology

Before we click the fiber optic line into the back of your modem for the final connection, it takes a long journey through many steps on its way to your home. Like any journey, a lot of planning goes into ensuring every step along the way. Here is a summary of the steps we go through to ensure top-quality fiber optic internet service to your neighborhood and finally to your home.

Meeting with the HOA

To ensure homeowners and the homeowner’s association are onboard and ready, we meet with the HOA and outline the plan for bringing Gateway Fiber’s service into the neighborhood. We want to be sure everyone knows the timeline and expectations for the process – from initial digging of the mainline to installation in the individual homes.

Easements & Private Property

Gateway works with local officials to secure all required permits and rights-of-way access. We always work within the right-of-way and do our best to communicate with you before any construction begins. Door hangers and direct mail should arrive prior to construction.

System Design

Ahead of any construction, Gateway contacts the utility companies to map out all underground utilities including pipes, wires, and water lines so we can carefully maneuver and not cause any disruptions. This planning process is collaborative with the homeowner to help us avoid installed features such as dog fences and sprinkler systems. This requires input from you to optimize the design for your home.

During Construction

Our construction and installation crews strive to be neighborhood-friendly and mindful of residents’ needs such as keeping driveways, streets, and sidewalks accessible and free of debris, when possible.

Installation to the Home

After designing the route, we carefully lay fiber optic cables underground from the neighborhood pedestal to your home. The cable will attach to your home through a small box called a Network Interface Device (NID). We pay careful attention not to disturb landscaping and other features that make your neighborhood beautiful. If we damage it, we fix it.

Final Connection

Then we connect the fiber cable outside your home to the modem inside and set up your Wi-Fi network, specifically designed to handle the lightning-quick bandwidth of your new fiber internet. You have the option to use your own router, but we cannot offer the same level of support.

Activation

All that’s left is for you to activate your new account, which you can do on your smart device within minutes of the final connection. Just log into the app while the technician is still there to make sure everything goes smoothly. If it does, you're all set. If not, we are there to help troubleshoot.

Restoration

Land restoration is very important to us. It’s our goal to be minimally invasive, so we strive to make it look like we were never there. If there is ever an instance where things are not restored to their previous condition, please contact us immediately, and we will work to rectify the situation.

Adding Gateway Fiber to your neighborhood’s offering couldn’t be easier. We do all the work, leaving your homeowners to enjoy their new fiber optic internet service.
